Dispute Resolution
-Civil Litigation

As Ghana’s legal landscape continues to evolve, the ability to anticipate and adapt to emerging trends in dispute resolution has never been more critical. 2024 proved to be notable for civil litigation in Ghana, with the courts delivering landmark judgments that have defined the interpretation and application of the rules of civil procedure and substantive law across a spectrum of critical areas.

Key developments such as the issuance of Practice Directions by the Chief Justice to guide civil litigation, seminal judicial pronouncements on constitutional principles, the clarity on the powers of the regulatory bodies such as the Bank of Ghana and principles that guide proper tax administration, among others, highlight the dynamic nature of Ghanaian jurisprudence and set the stage for an intricate and evolving litigation landscape in 2025.

In this report, we critically examine the impact of these key developments on the interpretation and application of laws in key sectors, analyse their broader implications, and provide a forward-looking perspective on the trajectory of civil litigation in the year ahead.
